Jinxed Ghajini’s December 25 release cleared; court lifts stay

Mumbai, Dec 24: The Madras High Court on Wednesday lifted the stay on the release of Aamir Khan’s much-awaited flick ‘Ghajini’, on the condition that its producer will pay Rs 5 crores and 50 percent of the profit made from the remake to A Chandrasekaran, the producer of the original Tamil film with the same title.

The order came after a special hearing and clears the way for the film’s release as per schedule on December 25.

On Tuesday, the HC had stayed the release of the film after A Chandrasekaran filed a suit claiming that the producers of the Hindi remake of ‘Ghajini’ had "fabricated documents to claim ownership over the remake rights".

The film has already drawn crowds to the theaters recording the biggest ever advance booking. Industry experts say that an estimated amount of at least Rs 1.2 billion is riding on the Aamir Khan starrer flick.

Aamir`s ‘Ghajini’ is a remake of AR Murugadoss` Tamil film ‘Ghajini’, starring Surya, Asin and Nayantara. Murugadoss and Asin are part of the Hindi adaptation as well
