Kajol joins size zero league

Unlike her usual chubby image, Bollywood actress Kajol was seen in a whole new avatar in the recent press event organised for Shiksha - a campaign to educate the girl child.

Though Kajol had a fairly voluptuous figure right from the beginning, it was after her wedding and the birth of her daughter, Nysa that the actress had put on extra pounds.

Now the actress is back to her slender self in the upcoming film,
My Name Is Khan.

According to a source close to the actress, "For
My Name is Khan, she (Kajol) has reduced weight which was very difficult for her to do. It's good to see her in that new thin look."

In
My Name is Khan. Kajol will be seen playing the role of an NRI woman.

Shah Rukh and Aamir come together for ‘fair rights for Friday nights’

Mumbai, April 07: Bollywood has come forward with a united front to resolve the tiff between the film producers and multiplexes over revenue sharing. Advocating a partnership of equality, Bollywood biggies Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan spoke at length about the stalemate.

In a press conference at Mumbai’s JWT Marriott, Aamir spoke on behalf of the producing fraternity, saying, “It should be a partnership of equality. Fifty percent sharing is fair. Distributors and exhibitors have to find a way to make it a viable business within their fifty percent. Within my fifty percent I have to make it profitable.”

"This is one industry and we all can survive only when each sector will earn a healthy share. We are here to find a solution to this," added Aamir.

Supporting Aamir’s point of view, Shah Rukh Khan stressed on the point of utilising the press meet as a platform for finding a solution, rather than making it a power show.

He clarified, “This is not a power show. We haven`t gathered here to threaten multiplexes. It`s a show of coming together.”

True to his witty self, SRK quipped, “We are here for fair rights for Friday nights.”

Producer-director Karan Johar introduced the speakers and co-ordinated the meet. Apart from the superstars, industry veterans like Ronnie Screwvala, Mukesh Bhatt Ramesh Sippy, Yash Raj, Sandeep Bhargav and Karan Johar were also present, among others.

The tiff between the producers and multiplexes started early February. And after several failed discussions, the producers decided to go on strike. From April 4 they have stopped giving release rights of new big-budget movies.

The strike has given way to a dry-season where no movies are being released as producers have refused to release any new film. The year had a damp start with a majority of flicks bombing at the BO, hence making it a dark first half for the entertainment industry.

SRK still optimistic about IPL

srk-wallpaper.jpg

While BCCI is breaking its head on rescheduling IPL matches in foreign locations, IPL’s Kolkatta Knight Riders Team’s owner SRK is quite optimistic about every change that is being happened to IPL due to its clash with elections.

Referring to change in the venues for IPL, SRK says, “Of course, the buzz would be missing here but I guess the elections will take care of it.”

When quizzed weather his B-wood buddies and his kids would join him at his team’s matches, he says,  “Yes, of course they will. Even I will try to be present at the maximum number of matches. As far as my kids are concerned, I will request Lalit Modi (Chairman of the IPL and vice-president of the Indian cricket board) to reschedule the matches at the weekend, so that my kids can attend it.”

Do you think if IPL goes international, it would lose all its fizz?

Hrithik and SRK best of buddies

hrithik-nodedisplay.jpg

SRK’s latest friend from Bollywood is Hrithik Roshan, both of them apparently are bonding like a house on fire.

Hrithik and wifey Suzanne are always seen at SRK’s parties while SRK and Gauri make it a point to attend every bash thrown by Roshan junior and the bond is getting stronger day by day.

A source talking about a recent event says, “It was no occasion as such, just a casual affair. SRK was there for quite a while. Later in the night, the host and the guests decided to play dumb charades of Hollywood flicks.”

“The guests were divided into two teams of Hrithik and Shahrukh. Both sides did their bit of miming and SRK’s team was declared to be the winner.”

“B-Town is slowly getting a whiff of the SRK-Hrithik bonding. Both stars refrain from talking about each other. Hrithik is known for being extremely guarded while SRK has not yet given his reply to Aamir’s recent outbursts against him.”

Well best of luck to the new dosti in town, may you survive for a longitme in B-wood

Big B and King Khan to share screen space soon

Big B and King Khan to share screen space soon

Director Vivek Sharma debuted well as a director with ‘Bhoothnath’, and is now using his above-average start to put his career in full-steam mode. The movie boasted special presence of Bollywood titans Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. He is using the awesome combination again for his upcoming ‘Buddham Sharanam Gachchami’.

When only one of them is enough to saturate the screen space with their presence, the idea of both together sparks enormous interest. ‘Bhoothnath’ won big time at the BO, and Vivek’s production house ‘Film Zone Productions’ is targeting even handsome returns this time.

Vivek plans to start two projects by the end of this year.

“My first film is titled Buddham Sharanam Ghachchami and it is a very violent film. I am planning to have big stars in the film. My next script needs to have both the superstars. I have narrated the subject to Amitabh Bachchan, I have yet to narrate it to Shah Rukh. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will agree to do my project,” Vivek revealed to a news daily.

‘Kal Kisne Dekha’, another flick in Vivek’s kitty, has been shot at various locales in South Africa and New Zealand. It stars debutants Jackky Bhagnani and Vaishali Desai, who is filmmaker Manmohan Desai’s grand daughter.

“The film is all about a young boy who can see the future. He has supernatural powers. I had signed the film before Bhoothnath but when Ravi Chopra approached me with Bhoothnath, I could not hold back. I was keen to work with Amjitji and Shah Rukh whom I consider my local guardian,” Vivek explained.

Talking of more projects, he said, “Well I am doing Ashtavinayak’s ‘Dil Can Fly Idhar Udhar’, a romantic comedy. We have still not zeroed in on the star cast.”

tn_don Don sequel with SRK and Priyanka may now never happenAll SRK fans who were eagerly waiting for a sequel to Don are all set to be disappointed, as the lead actors of the movie don’t have time for the sequel.

Priyanka the lead actress of Don says,“I think the sequel is a little far now. I don’t think it will start soon. Everyone involved in the project is pretty busy now I think with other work.”

A source reveals, “Farhan is busy with Luck By Chance in which he is acting and also with his next directorial film Voice From The Sky. So, as of now Don 2 is not starting.”

“Shah Rukh too is very tied up now. He has to look after the promotions of his own production Billoo Barber, then he will do Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan and then move over to his another production Happy New Year which Farah Khan will direct. He is also busy with his animation film Ravan. He does not have time for Don 2 at the moment but yes as everyone knows Shah Rukh is ready to act in the sequel.”

Well as Priyanka said, Don2 is really really far away, it might be ready in 2010 I guess.

Shah Rukh and me have made it on our own” - Akshay

akshay Shah Rukh and me have made it on our own - Akshay As Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi reaches mid-week, it is crystal clear that Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Raj Films have a big money spinner up their sleeves. With no questions being asked about the big opening that Ghajini is all set to take, industry is smiling again. Hat-trick of big bucks flowing in is pretty much on the anvil as Chandni Chowk To China is on it’s way to create a hat-trick of box office winners once it releases on 16th January 2009. No wonder, there is a lot riding on each of these biggies.

Says Akshay Kumar, “Shah Rukh Khan and me are the only actors in the current times who have attained this level of success all on our own without any Godfather backing us. We came without any connections in Bollywood and still have managed to reach this stage by sheer hard work and determination.”

He chooses to shrug away the ‘who amongst the two is supreme’ talk when the question was raised around his rap number in Chandni Chowk To China. In the song composed by Bohemia which would play during the film’s end credit titles, there are a few lines that go as:

“Mera Ek Haath Ka Khel, Sara Bollywood Ek Mera Koi Nahi Mel,
Acting Karne Chale Vaise Hazaaron, Badsaah Ek Baaki Sare Fail”

Is this the superstar talking for himself? “But if you listen carefully, am I bringing in the ’superstar’ angle at all? And there is a lot of other stuff which is being talked about in the song, especially the parts around me coming from the Chandni Chowk lanes and beating the odds to live life on my own terms. Where does he question around me reigning supremacy come in? In any case, a rap number belonging to such situation and genre is all about attitude and this is what is demonstrated in the entire song. Let’s not make much ado about it”, protests Akshay.

When Shah Rukh kissed Anushka

Sonia Gandhi, Shah Rukh ranked among 50 most powerful people

New York, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan have been ranked among the 50 most powerful people in the world by the prestigious Newsweek magazine. President-elect Barack Obama topped the list.

Placing Sonia Gandhi at the 17th spot, the magazine said: "Although India's political scene is riven by factions, Congress remains the strongest national force, and the Italian-born widow of late former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi rules it unchallenged. In the world's largest democracy, she's queen."

Shah Rukh Khan, who occupies 41st spot in the magazine's 50 most powerful people, was described as the "King of Bollywood."

"It's not just that his (Shah Rukh Khan's) romantic flicks make gazillions, it's where those gazillions come from. Khan is huge in the Muslim world, even in Pakistan and Afghanistan, where the mullahs ban his films. (The movies thrive on the black market.," the newsweekly said.

"Their main appeal is certainly the song-and-dance numbers, but Khan (a Muslim married to a Hindu) makes devoutly secular films where love trounces bigotry."

Pakistan army chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who controls the country's nuclear weapons, is placed 20th on the list of the global "power elite" at the beginning of 2009 in the magazine's January issue.

Obama, who scripted history by becoming the first black-American to be voted to the White House, is followed by Chinese President Hu Jintao, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Markel and powerful Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

A surprise inclusion in the list, which the magazine admits is subjective, is Osama Bin Laden, whom the Newsweek describes as "global terrorist". North Korean dictator Jim Jong II also finds a place in the list.

About 47-year-old Obama, it says the presidency of the "intensely charismatic" Democrat, who will be inaugurated Jan 20, will be judged on how he handles the economic crisis that now envelops the US and the world. "For Obama to be remembered as a great President, he has to do nothing less than rescue capitalism."

For Bin Laden, who finds 42nd spot, the magazine says the manhunt may not have been successful, but it has driven him far underground. Once a glutton for publicity, he has not shot a new video since September 2007, and no audio message from him has been heard since May 2008, it says.

Chinese President Hu, who was awarded the second place after Obama, Newsweek says, is a guy "you wouldn't think twice about...cautious, colourless and corporate. In the past he has often lost the spotlight to other world leaders with bigger egos and sharper elbows. But to underestimate Hu Jintao would be a monumental error."

"His position as China's president makes him CEO of a financial juggernaut that's projected to post a $280 billion trade surplus this year. While the rest of the world plunges deeper into recession, Hu the Humble is emerging as the one who is holding the lifeline."

Among others on the list include the Dalai Lama, former US president Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary, Iranian strongman Ayatollah Ali Khemenei, Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, American General David Petraeus, Iraqi leader Nuri al-Maliki, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Pope Benedict XVI, Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and popular show host Oprah Winfre

Aamir and I share an extremely cordial relationship: Shah Rukh

Mumbai, The cold war between the two reigning Bollywood Khans, Shah Rukh and Aamir seems set for a thaw with Shah Rukh appealing to everyone to watch Aamir's film "Ghajini" that releases Dec 25.

A day after proclaiming himself the biggest brand in the country, Shah Rukh, in an apparent change of heart, said at a press conference: "I appeal to all to watch 'Ghajini'."

He was speaking late Thursday at a press conference to introduce to the media the lead actress of his latest release "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", Anoushka Sharma.

Shah Rukh said: "I want all the people to watch 'Ghajini'. We as people from the industry know how much pain it takes to make a film. We wait anxiously every Friday to see the result of our hard work that we put in to make a film."

"So my best wishes are with every film be it 'Ghajini' or 'Chandni Chowk To China' or any other movie. I want every film to do well," he added.

Shah Rukh said: "During the time when we talk of unity and wish to stay united, we should pray good for everyone."

Rubbishing reports of his rivalry with Aamir, Shah Rukh said, "We share an extremely cordial relationship."

Citing an example, he said when they met at a party recently they were discussing doing a film showing their six-pack abs.

"I was scared as I lost my six packs and wanted Aamir to say no. Luckily, he said he has lost his packs too, so let's give a chance to some other actor," Shah Rukh quipped.

About Aamir, he said, "I think he has changed himself well over the recent period of time. Previously, he did not like to interact much with the public and the media, but now he interacts well and has also developed a sense of humour."

On the inclusion of "Rab Ne.."'s script in the Oscar library, he said, "It feels good as now Indian film scripts are getting recognition in the West."

He said Indian films suffer from lack of good screenplay writing. "The main reason is that we do not have good schools to teach it," he said.

"Screenplay is a science, which needs to be taught where one needs to say many things in least possible words," he explained.

Shah Rukh pointed out the need to change the style of writing screenplays in order to get recognition in the international market.

"Our stories are too lengthy, full of songs and dances which makes it unacceptable for the international audience. So if we change the style and be more compact in story telling our work will be more accepted internationally," he added.

Shah Rukh also lauded the media for their efforts of covering news and being the bridge between stars and the audience.

He said "Initially, I used to be quite embarrassed by the questions being asked by the media as a few were very personal. But later, I realised those questions were not to embarrass me but they really wanted to clarify certain things, which was in good taste."

"Media guys are true to their work as I am to acting," he remarked.

On Wednesday, he said "Rab Ne Bana De Jodi" is doing well and there is no threat to his film from "Ghajini".

"There cannot be any competition with me. I'm the biggest brand in the country. I am always there to endorse for everyone, but the saddest part is that no one is there to endorse for me as there is no brand bigger than me," Shah Rukh said at the launch function of Filmfare magazine's latest issue.

Reacting to Shah Rukh's statement, Aamir said: "He has been speaking about himself for last 20 years so there is nothing new about it."

Aamir is aggressively campaigning for "Ghajini", which will release Dec 25, and the ushers of the multiplexes, where Shah Rukh's film is running, have adopted Aamir's Ghajini-hair style to promote the action-thriller.

Who is bigger brand Shah Rukh or Aamir?

Mumbai, The cold war between Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan over their films "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and "Ghajini" took a new turn with the former proclaiming himself as the biggest brand and saying there cannot be any competition with him.

Shah Rukh, whose film "Rab Ne Bana De Jodi" opened with good collections last week, said his film is doing well and there is no threat to his film from "Ghajini".

"There cannot be any competition with me. I'm the biggest brand in the country. I am always there to endorse for everyone, but the saddest part is that no one is there to endorse for me as there is no brand bigger than me," Shah Rukh said this Tuesday at the launch function of Filmfare magazine's latest issue.

"It was decided a long ago and has nothing to do with Shah Rukh's film. I think, people who would come to see Shah Rukh's film won't change their mind after seeing the ushers in the theatres," Aamir told reporters at a Van Heusen's event.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels Aamir's idea to promote the film is effective. "It's a brilliant idea to promote the film and I think it is definitely going to work in favour of the film," he said.

Commenting on "Ghajini"'s impact on the collection of "Rab Ne...", Adarsh said: "'Rab Ne...' is weak in content and its opening on Friday was not good. The film gradually picked up on Saturday and Sunday. But again from Monday there was a drop in the collection," Adarsh told IANS.

Adarsh is quite positive about Aamir and his film.

He said: "Aamir has become a huge brand and people like to see him more. I think as soon as 'Ghajini' opens, it will eat into 'Rab Ne...'s' territory. I think 'Ghajini' will be a big hit."

On being asked who is a bigger brand - Aamir or Shah Rukh, Taran said: "It's all about how good you are on Fridays."
